Ubiquiti UniFi Travel Router (UTR)
The Ubiquiti UTR is an ultra-slim, pocket-sized mobile security gateway and wireless access point engineered to instantly extend your secure corporate network environment anywhere in the world. Weighing just 89 grams and built into an incredibly thin polycarbonate chassis, this palm-sized companion node is purpose-built for digital nomads, remote field engineers, and IT consultants who demand familiar, protected connectivity while working from hotels, cafes, or temporary project locations.
Operating seamlessly as an encrypted bridge back to a primary home or office console, the UTR packages advanced security firewall features and multiple inbound connection methods into a travel-hardened frame.
Versatile Multi-WAN Inbound Uplink Architecture
The UTR eliminates the frustration of restrictive remote internet networks by supporting three distinct high-speed WAN internet sourcing profiles:
-
Physical Wired WAN: Connect directly to local in-room broadband lines via the primary 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port. The Ethernet sockets feature a clever, low-profile mechanical tension cap that expands cleanly to receive standard RJ45 boot connectors without adding permanent bulk to the router.
-
Wireless WISP Rebroadcasting: Actively log onto public hotspot networks or hotel captive portal grids over the air. The UTR secures the hostile public connection and rebroadcasts a private, encrypted wireless network to all your personal laptops, tablets, and testing gear simultaneously.
-
USB-C Mobile Phone Tethering: Equipped with a dedicated secondary USB-C data interface. Users can plug an iOS or Android smartphone directly into the chassis to instantly use the phoneβs 4G or 5G cellular data plan as the primary high-speed internet source for the entire local network array.
Integrated Teleport VPN & Enterprise Encryption
The key operational advantage of the UTR is its tight integration into the secure UniFi software ecosystem, allowing remote users to safely bypass localised tracking and regional content blocks:
-
One-Click Teleport VPN Tunneling: Utilizing native Teleport VPN architecture, the UTR creates an instantly encrypted digital pipeline back to your primary home or corporate UniFi Cloud Gateway. This allows technicians to securely interact with local office servers, IP cameras, or production hardware exactly as if they were physically plugged into the main office switch rack.
-
Hardware-Offloaded Client Tunnels: Features native, high-efficiency hardware offloading for standalone client configurations using WireGuard or OpenVPN security frameworks.
Interface Mapping & Media Configuration
The miniature outer shell manages data paths and power distribution across low-profile physical terminal locations:
| Physical Connection Interface | Terminal Port Medium | Default Operational Role | Maximum Link Speed |
| Port 1 (WAN) | Gigabit RJ45 Copper | Inbound Wired Broadband Feed | 1,000 Mbps (1 Gbps) |
| Port 2 (LAN) | Gigabit RJ45 Copper | Outbound Private Local Network | 1,000 Mbps (1 Gbps) |
| USB-C Data Port | USB Type-C Terminal | iOS & Android Cellular Tethering Gateway | High-Speed Mobile Data |
| USB-C Power Input | USB Type-C Terminal | System Power Input Gate (5V, 2A) | 5W Peak Power Draw |
1.14" Diagnostic Screen & Zero-Touch Management
-
Real-Time LCM Status Display: The top face houses a crisp 1.14-inch liquid crystal diagnostic display. This provides network engineers with immediate visual confirmation of active WAN IP configurations, current upload/download data throughputs, wireless signal strength metrics, and active VPN connection states without needing to load software dashboards.
-
Dual-Mode Setup Flexibility: The UTR can be configured in two ways. It can be adopted directly into an existing UniFi controller network to inherit central corporate security policies, or it can function as a completely autonomous, standalone travel router managed directly via Bluetooth using the UniFi Mobile App.
-
Ultra-Efficient Power Footprint: Drawing a maximum of just 5 Watts, the UTR can run continuously from standard USB-C wall adapters, laptop ports, or portable USB power banks while traveling on trains or working remotely in the field.
