Retail Hardware Guidance

What hardware do I need for a Shopify POS setup in the UK?

A standard Shopify POS setup usually requires an iPad, a Star Micronics receipt printer (TSP143 series), a compatible cash drawer, and a Bluetooth barcode scanner (like the Socket Mobile or Sunmi range). We supply UK-specific kits that are guaranteed to sync with Shopify’s latest app updates.

What is the difference between a 1D and 2D barcode scanner?

1D scanners only read traditional "linear" barcodes (the black lines). 2D scanners are essential for modern retail as they can read QR codes, mobile vouchers, and digital loyalty cards directly from a customer's phone screen. For vape shops and boutiques, we recommend 2D scanners to handle age verification and digital promos.

Can I use a label printer for price tags and shelf edges?

Yes. Thermal label printers like the Zebra ZD series or Brother TD range allow you to print high-quality price markdowns and shelf-edge labels without ink. This is a "must-have" for inventory control, allowing you to re-label stock quickly during sales or seasonal changes.

How do I choose hardware for a pop-up stall or event?

For temporary retail, portability and battery life are key. We recommend Bluetooth-enabled thermal printers and mobile terminals that can connect via a 4G/5G hotspot. All-in-one handhelds like the Sunmi V2s are ideal for stalls as they combine a touchscreen and receipt printer in one pocket-sized device.

Do you supply hardware that works with Zettle and Square?

Absolutely. We specialise in non-proprietary hardware. Our printers and scanners are compatible with leading UK payment platforms including Zettle, Square, and SumUp. This ensures you aren't locked into expensive proprietary hardware and can switch software providers if needed.

Are your retail scales UK Trading Standards approved?

Yes. For delis, zero-waste shops, and grocers, we provide scales that are Trade Approved (Class III). This is a legal requirement in the UK if you are selling products by weight at the point of sale. Our scales can integrate directly with many POS systems to ensure accurate pricing.
