The Star Micronics TSP143IV SK is a specialist direct thermal hardware solution purpose-built for linerless label printing. Representing the latest technical evolution of the industry-standard TSP100 series, this range is designed specifically for high-pressure Quick Service Restaurants (QSR), takeaway counters, dark kitchens, and fast-paced retail environments.

Unlike traditional label printers, linerless technology utilises paper rolls without silicone backing liners. This offers major operational advantages: it eliminates slick, discarded backing paper from kitchen floors, permits more labels per roll to reduce swap-out frequency during peak services, and allows variable-length label cutting to minimise paper waste.

Core Hardware Features

1. Integrated Label Taken Sensor (LTS)

The TSP143IV SK features a mechanical paper-retention sensor at the exit mouth. When printing multi-item online delivery orders or kitchen prep sequences, the printer holds the next job in the queue until the operator has physically removed the current sticky label. This prevents consecutive labels from packing together or sticking to one another during rapid ticket printing.

2. Specialised Anti-Stick Guillotine Cutter

Standard receipt printer cutters will jam immediately if used with adhesive media. The TSP143IV SK features a heavy-duty, teflon-coated guillotine cutter designed to slice clean through repositionable adhesives without accumulating sticky residue, ensuring a long operational lifespan.

3. Android Open Accessory (AOA) Protocol

The integrated USB-A port supports Android Open Accessory (AOA) technology. When connected to a compatible Android tablet via a standard USB cable, the printer establishes a direct, physical data connection while simultaneously delivering a 1.5A charge to the tablet. This prevents network dropouts on tablet-based till points.

4. Built-In CloudPRNT Next Technology

Running on the modern MQTT communication protocol, Star's CloudPRNT Next allows the printer to communicate directly with web servers. It pulls and prints online orders from platforms such as Shopify, WooCommerce, Deliveroo, or Uber Eats web portals automatically, bypassing the need for a local PC or tablet to act as an intermediary bridge.

  • Click & Collect / Retail Logistics: Perfect for rapid printing of dispatch labels and item identification tags directly onto inventory boxes during warehouse sorting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a "Linerless" or "SK" label printer, and how does it work?

The TSP143IV-UE SK (MPN: 39473390) is designed to print on specialised liner-free, low-tack re-stick media. Unlike traditional shipping labels, these rolls have no glossy backing paper to peel off and throw awayβ€”reducing environmental waste. The printed tickets can be stuck directly onto delivery boxes, paper bags, or coffee cups, peeled off cleanly, and repositioned without leaving sticky residue.

Can I use standard thermal receipt paper rolls in the TSP143IV-UE SK?

Yes, the printer is dual-purpose. While it is specifically engineered with specialized non-stick internal rollers and a heavy-duty coating to handle the adhesives on linerless labels, it can also print standard 80mm thermal receipts perfectly. (Note: Regular receipt printers will jam instantly if you try to put sticky linerless media into them.)

What is the built-in "Paper Taken Sensor" and why is it useful?

This is a vital feature for busy fast-food and hospitality environments. The integrated Paper Taken Sensor detects when a printed label is still hanging from the mouth of the printer. In a high-volume kitchen, it holds back subsequent tickets and only prints the next order once the packer has physically removed the current label. This prevents order mix-ups and messy pile-ups on the floor.

What label widths does this printer support?

Out of the box, the 39473390 handles high-capacity 80mm wide rolls. However, you can use a physical internal paper guide that can be easily slotted in to accommodate narrower 40mm and 58mm label or receipt widths, giving you maximum flexibility depending on your order ticket layouts.

How does the TSP143IV-UE SK connect to our setup?

It features Star’s premium dual-wired network interface suite:

  • Ethernet LAN port: For hardwired kitchen network setups.
  • USB-C port: For modern tablet or POS PC links.
  • USB-A port with Android AOA: Allowing an Android POS tablet to stream data and fast-charge simultaneously over a single cable.
  • Star CloudPRNT Next: Built-in tech allowing the printer to pull delivery tickets (UberEats, Deliveroo, Shopify, etc.) directly from your online web server.
Does it feature a full-cut or partial-cut autocutter?

The printer is equipped with a specialised, fortified partial-cut guillotine autocutter. It leaves a tiny paper tab intact at the edge so the label hangs safely from the printer mouth until the operator pulls it, preventing sticky labels from falling face-down onto counter surfaces.
