Core Hardware Features
1. Compact Footprint & Internal Power
The TSP143IV features a redesigned chassis that reduces counter space usage by 20% compared to the older TSP143III series. The 24VDC power supply is completely internal, removing the need for external power bricks and simplifying cable routing under the counter.
2. Android Open Accessory (AOA) Protocol
The integrated USB-A port supports Android Open Accessory (AOA) technology. When connected to a compatible Android tablet via a standard USB cable, the printer establishes a direct, physical data connection while simultaneously delivering a 1.5A charge to the tablet. This prevents network dropouts on tablet-based till points.
3. Native CloudPRNT Next Technology
Built with support for the MQTT protocol, Starβs CloudPRNT Next technology allows the printer to communicate directly with web servers. It pulls and prints online orders from platforms such as Shopify, WooCommerce, and restaurant delivery software automatically, bypassing the need for a local PC or tablet to act as a bridge.
4. Integrated Receipt De-Curl Function
To improve customer presentation and receipt handling, the printer includes an integrated mechanical de-curl feature. This ensures that receipts emerge flat from the paper exit rather than tightly coiled.

Key Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I connect the TSP143IV directly to an iPad using a USB cable?
No. The USB data interface on the TSP143IV series uses the Android Open Accessory (AOA) protocol, which is designed exclusively for Android hardware. While an iPad will charge when plugged into the USB port, it cannot transmit data via USB. For wired iPad setups, choose the older Star TSP143IIIU (Lightning model) or the Star mC-Print3 (CI) which features Apple MFi-certified USB Power Delivery.
How do I connect an iPad to the TSP143IV if USB isn't supported?
To use this printer with an iOS device, you must connect via the network or wirelessly. For the TSP143IV UE, connect the printer to your internet router using an Ethernet cable; your iPad can then print over your local Wi-Fi network. For the TSP143IV X4, you can pair the iPad directly via Bluetooth or connect it over your local 2.4GHz / 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
What is the practical difference between the UE and X4 variants?
The UE variant (39473090 / 39473190) is a dual-interface wired model offering USB-C and Ethernet LAN connections. The X4 variant (39473790 / 39473890) is an all-in-one wireless model that includes those same wired interfaces alongside built-in Dual-Band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Does this printer require ink cartridges or ribbons?
No. The Star TSP143IV uses direct thermal printing technology. It prints by applying heat directly to heat-sensitive thermal paper rolls, eliminating ongoing ribbon or ink cartridge replacement costs.
Can this printer operate a standard cash drawer?
Yes. The printer features a standard RJ11 peripheral drive connector on the rear, allowing it to send a 24V pulse to trigger the automatic opening of any standard compatible cash drawer.
